Celebrate Children’s Book Week with this new Book Trailer!

Carmen Gloria book "Thank You Mercury!"

Today and this year marks the 100th anniversary of Children’s Book Week and I am excited to be launching the book trailer to my first authored and illustrated children’s book “Thank You Mercury!” Children’s Book Week (in the U.S.) began their mission in 1919 with the belief that a book can change a child’s life. I truly believe in the power of books, in particular during a child’s developing years.

My purpose for “Thank You Mercury!”, the first in the Kid Astronomy series, is to inspire young kids to learn about our solar system and basic astronomy, along with a fun story about friendship and gratitude. The other reason I wrote this book is because I wish I had books like this when I was a child to help me remember the planets and learn astronomy easier.

Publishing my first book has been a HUGE learning experience already, as I’ve done extensive research and decided to self-publish instead of seeking for a traditional publisher. I’ve been reaching out to children’s book bloggers and some of them have already responded and said they do not review self-published books, and that they are already swamped with publishers’ submissions. So I find myself wondering was it the right choice to self-publish. I will keep working on getting the book some attention, but I am also working on the next story.

With creating art, whether it be books, paintings, films or music, one never knows for sure what kind of reaction people will have. For example, in my very first blog post, I wrote about how to handle fears of launching your first book, or in general, launching your creative projects in any art form. My main message was to just do it and keep moving forward, not to give up. Then I wrote about how I had decided, after many years, to stop pursuing music as an artist. I feel great about that decision, but what is so interesting is that my last music EP, “The Art Of Love”, was just nominated for Best Jazz EP by the Independent Music Awards 2019. One never knows when our projects will get noticed or get attention.

What I hope is that I can get this children’s book out there for children to enjoy and at the same time learn a bit of beginning astronomy.

We creatives who have an intense urge to always create, have to just keep creating. We have to pursue what we love and make art, or otherwise we get sad or depressed. That is what I’ve experienced. So whether my first children’s book gets attention now or later, I feel good that I’ve created it and that I’m writing more.

I will leave today’s post with that. Happy Children’s Book Week and I am looking forward to sharing with you more. For now, here’s the “Thank You Mercury” book trailer!
